"Afflux of time" (traditionally and more formally known in common law as "efflux of time") is a legal phrase that refers to the natural expiration, passing, or lapsing of a specific period.

In legal drafting, it most commonly describes a situation where an agreement, lease, or statutory period comes to an end automatically simply because the agreed-upon duration has run out. No external action, notice of termination, or breach is required; the mere passage of time brings the arrangement to a close.

Additionally, in civil litigation and family court matters, the phrase is frequently cited as a justification for modifying ongoing orders. For instance, a decree for ongoing child support or maintenance might be increased by a judge due to the "afflux of time," acknowledging that needs and living costs naturally rise as months or years pass.

قانونی مفہوم:

قانون اور ڈرافٹنگ (Drafting) کی زبان میں، جب کوئی معاہدہ (Contract) یا کرایہ نامہ (Lease) اپنی مقررہ مدت پوری ہونے پر خود بخود ختم ہو جائے، تو اسے "Termination by afflux of time" کہا جاتا ہے۔ اس صورت میں فریقین کو ایک دوسرے کو الگ سے کوئی نوٹس دینے کی ضرورت نہیں ہوتی۔

خاندانی تنازعات (Family Law) اور دیوانی مقدمات میں، یہ اصطلاح وقت گزرنے کے ساتھ حالات میں آنے والی تبدیلیوں کو ظاہر کرنے کے لیے بھی استعمال ہوتی ہے۔ مثال کے طور پر، تنسیخِ نکاح یا خرچہ نفقہ (Maintenance) کے مقدمات میں، عدالتیں عموماً یہ فیصلہ دیتی ہیں کہ "وقت گزرنے" (afflux of time) کی وجہ سے بچے کے خرچے میں سالانہ بنیادوں پر اضافہ کیا جانا چاہیے۔
